More on the Gulf

BP spewing gunk
In the August 2010 Field Notes from the Farm, my dad compared BP's recent mess in the Gulf of Mexico with the Exxon Valdez spill.  He also took the mainstream media to task for ignoring the fact that much of the petroleum and other gunk spewed into Gulf waters were being consumed by existing bacteria, greatly minimizing environmental damage.

Well the mainstream media has finally gotten around to reporting what my dad was talking about in August.  See these articles from the Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor and Los Angeles Times.  This insightful BBC article also discusses the differences between Gulf and Arctic waters.  For those that want to go beyond the mainstream, here's an abstract of the report from Science that spawned the big media coverage (need to subscribe to Science for the full report).
